Explore the creative world of Olesia Tymoshenko, a filmmaker and storyteller weaving magic through films and children's literature.

Olesia Tymoshenko is an emerging filmmaker from Ukraine, based in New York. She is an MFA graduate in film from Stony Brook University (anticipated Spring 2025) and a 2024 Fellow at the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard. Her short films, All Things Bohemian (2023) and Les Kurbas: Theatre and Philosophy (2024), My Turtle’s Name is Potato (2024),explore themes of identity, history, hope and artistic expression. She is currently in pre-production for her debut feature film.

As an artist, Olesia is most passionate about comedy, using humor as a powerful tool to tackle complex societal issues. She believes that meaningful stories resonate best when they entertain as much as they provoke thought. Her filmmaking blends poetic cinematography—rooted in Eastern Europe’s rich tradition of metaphorical storytelling—with the structure-driven clarity of American cinema. Her creative ambition is to merge these influences, crafting visually striking films that balance humor, depth, and narrative momentum.

Olesia has self-published the children’s book The Adventures of Booba and Boobasia (2022).
